Taxis
Although Turin is small enough to be able to walk easily
there are times in every tourist's life when a taxi is essential. Although
Italian taxis are relatively expensive, the taxi drivers we encountered
were always friendly, and never tried to rip us off - Rome could learn
a thing or two.
In the centre of town you can find a taxi rank at the
top of Piazza Vittorio Veneto and at Porta Nuova railway
station there are two taxi ranks. One is just outside the station, the
other is across the road. If you arrive from the airport by bus then
you'll be just round the corner from the latter, but if it's late then
you may not find any taxis here and should go to the one outside the
station.
It can be a little uncomfortable here at night - the usual
assortment of winos, junkies and weirdos you find at all major railway
stations.
A taxi ride to Porta Nuova from the city centre
is around €6, to the car museum €8 and there is a baggage fee
of €0.50.
