Hotel Amadeus Turin
The 3-star Hotel Amadeus is in a great location, just
a minute from Piazza Vittorio Veneto and with easy walking distance of
all the best of Turin.
The rooms are tastefully decorated and restored to a high
standard - small, but comfortable. Our room had a slight leak around
the window from the rain, but nothing terrible, and in places the wallpaper
is slightly scuffed and torn, but that's being really picky.

The reception area is pretty nondescript, and the stairwell
rather gloomy, although well decorated and the lift is extremely small.
But it is an old building, so presumably the lift had to be fitted into
the existing structure.
Rooms
have a phone, safe and mini-bar and the hotel has wifi access - €3
for 1 hour, €8 for 4 hours and €15 for 24 hours, although we
managed to connect to another wifi network for free while staying in
the hotel. The website for Hotel Amadeus does advertise Internet access
but doesn't mention that it is wifi and doesn't mention the charges.
Bathrooms are clean and nicely tiled, although are fitted
with a plastic wash basin which seems rather flimsy and although there
is a shower with all kinds of settings and a hair dryer, there are no
glasses for toothbrushes and toothpaste - a minor quibble.

Another quibble with the Hotel Amadeus is that although
instructions are provided on how to dial an external number there is
no indication of the rates you'll pay. And although the mini-bar is modestly
priced - €2 for water and soft drinks, €3.50 for the single
bottle of beer - it is badly stocked.
However, the beds are firm and comfortable and the sheets
good quality and starched.
Although
I've been led to understand that it was once a brothel, there
is nothing remaining to give that idea. A complete renovation,
while giving comfortable rooms, has removed what must have been
real character.
Breakfast is easily forgettable, unusually for Italy the
coffee is terrible and you may as well find a café with better
food and decent coffee in a real Italian ambience. The €18 price
tag is a bit steep too.
All in all Hotel Amadeus is a comfortable hotel, excellently
located and won't break the bank. If you want real luxury then give it
a miss, but for most travellers to Turin it is almost perfect.
