Getting to and from Turin Airport

Turin Airport is 10 miles / 16 km north of Turin's city centre and takes just 20-30 minutes by road.

Although the airport does have a train connection, it goes to Dora station where you must change for Porta Nuova. There are departures every 30 minutes throughout the day, but be warned that the last train to the airport leaves before 20:00 - if you're leaving later than this you should arrange other transport.

Taxis are expensive, usually more than €30, but they are in plentiful supply, while buses from the airport leave every 30-45 minutes (depending on the time of day) between 05:15 and 22:30 - the bus goes to Via Borgaro, Porta Susa railway station and Porta Nuova.

Turin Airport Bus stop signExiting the airport arrivals area, the airport bus stop is almost directly opposite - look for the Sadem sign (right).

When you get on the bus you must get your ticket stamped by the yellow machine just behind the driver's right shoulder - failure to do so can be expensive - a large fine if you're found without a ticket or not had it stamped.

Although traditionally you have been unable to buy a ticket on the bus, these days things are a bit easier. All the same, it is still better to buy your ticket before boarding - you will be charged an additional fee of €0.50 for the privilege of buying your ticket from the driver, or the driver may tell you to go and use the machine anyway!

The journey from the airport can start a little tortuously as many cars are parked so badly that the bus can't pass them. This is easily solved by the bus driver blasting his horn until the abandoned cars are reclaimed by their owners and the journey can begin properly.

Turin airport - bus tickets

On arrival there is a machine almost directly opposite the doors from the customs area selling various items including bus tickets.

This machine is typically Italian in temperament and very fussy about the bank notes you insert - it accepts €5, €10 and €20 notes - although it is more forgiving with coins.

Press the button marked SADEM €5, and don't through away the little white box that the machine dispenses - it contains your ticket!

For the journey from Turin to the airport you can buy tickets from several cafés near Porta Nuova railway station (below).

The bus stop and Porta NuovaThe bus stop is on the corner of Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Sacchi and the three cafés on the corner all sell tickets, although two of them are closed on Sundays.
